Boise River ReWild Project

Boise River ReWild Project

The Boise River ReWild project is a community effort of partners working with Golden Eagle Audubon Society to restore over 40 acres of land in the Boise River corridor. In September of 2022 SustainingUS adopted a plot to help keep the project going and give support to a plot that needed extra volunteer hours. The goals for the ReWild project were aligned with our mission:

  1. Invasive Species Removal

  2. Native Plant Restoration

  3. Shoreline Protection & Access Management

  4. Litter Clean Up

  5. Visitor Education

We hosted several volunteer work parties and watered (occasionally) over the summer months – the xeric species in our plot were well suited to the extremely well drained and sandy soils of the site.

April 2024 update!

The scope of the project was only for two years, so we are starting to wrap things up! This spring, as the water in the river is rising and beginning to threaten access to the site, we set out to remove the plant cages before they break apart and become litter in the river. It was rewarding to be part of this effort and see so many native plants established along the river and such a large amount of riparian habitat improved and enriched.
